Orange County: Edna Lewis Celebration

No one spoke the language of the land better than Edna Lewis in her time. Using humble ingredients and methods of cooking, Edna left a permanent footprint in culinary history by unapologetically sharing food with others and the stories behind it. Orange County wanted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Edna's iconic cookbook. The event hosted by Orange County featured two videos produced by HERD Ventures and was attended by those who personally loved and knew Edna, along with those who have great respect for her methods of cooking and her legacy.

Telling The Story

HERD Ventures had the privilege and responsibility of embodying the monumental role of Edna Lewis. Edna strove to bridge the gap between food consumers and culinary cultivators by way of her cooking and food education. Through videos and captured content, HERD Ventures showcased and honored the pivotal role that Edna plays in both culinary history and the history of Virginia. Chef Joy Crump, along with other locally renowned chefs, worked tirelessly to make every bite of this journey come to life. Edna’s relatives who participated gave a warm welcome to the team and were nothing but hospitable to all. This truly is what we are all about: good food and good people gathering together.

Joy Crump is a founding partner and executive chef at FOODE in Fredericksburg, VA.
